Is technology driving your pet insane? - CNET

e aware of the secret flicker and noise that home technology may transmit to your pets.

It's not just unheard noise your pet may be dealing with but also unseen light flicker. LED lighting is taking over the home, with 40 percent of the $26 billion US LED lighting market going to residences as of 2016, according to Zion Market Research. But LED lights have the inherent problem of flickering on and off all the time, whether dimmed or at full brightness. You may barely detect flicker from a modern LED bulb, but as with sound, your pets have a greater range of perception. Add a disco ball to that high-pitched whine.

Pet health care costs can top human medical bills, new report on cat and dog insurance shows - CBS News

Pet owners may shell out as much — or more — money for their pets’ health care as they do for their own, a new report suggests. Pricey new technologies and more advanced treatment options drive up costs in many cases.
For a clearer picture of the types of animal illnesses, accidents, and resulting costs that pet owners face, Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, a company that sells medical coverage for dogs and cats, crunched data from 215,000 claims submitted by their customers during a one-year period.
The 7 foods most likely to make your pet sick According to their Cost of Pet Care 2016 report, the most common accidents and illnesses for dogs include stomach issues — often from ingesting dangerous human foods, such as chocolate and other sweets; skin conditions; ear and eye infections; growths; and chronic allergies and pain.
Stomach and skin issues plague cats, too, as well as urinary tract infections, cancer, kidney disease, eye and ear conditions, and heart and respiratory problems.

Keeping Your Pet Busy

Lucy Postins on Keeping Your Pet HealthyWhen I’m not feeling well it seems like my dog senses it – and for some reason that’s the time he pesters me the most to play. I feel guilty when I can’t take him out for a walk or play fetch because I’m in pain. I also feel badly when I can’t give my cats the attention they need.
For pet owners who can’t go for long dog walks, are there any games/fun training that will provide mental stimulation?
Sure! Something as simple hiding small treats around the house for your pet to find provides fun and mental stimulation to keep them busy. Interactive puzzles and toys will also give them something to focus on. KONG makes some of our favorite interactive toys. Fill them with treats or food and watch your dog or cat work to get the reward!

Fruits

As dog owners, it’s not uncommon to want to spoil your four-legged family members by sharing table scraps or your favorite snack with them. After all, if it is safe for you to eat, it must be OK for them as well, right? Not necessarily. While many human foods, especially fruits and vegetables, are perfectly safe, some are very unhealthy and downright dangerous to dogs. Dogs digest differently than humans, and eating the wrong foods can lead to long-term health problems and, in extreme cases, even death.  As carnivores, they have no need for fruits and vegetables as part of their diet, but an occasional fruit or veggie as a treat is OK.Image result for fruits and veggies

23 Friendliest Dog Breeds | PetBreeds

2By PetBreeds on July 22, 2015

Finding a new four-legged companion can be tricky because there are dozens of K9 qualities to choose from. Some dogs are overly energetic, while others are detached or aggressive. Depending on your allergies, you may need to find a hypoallergenic dog, or seek out a breed that doesn’t shed. Some dogs require a backyard, while others are happy in small apartments. The search can be exhausting!
At PetBreeds, we wanted to make the process a little easier by finding the friendliest dog breeds in America. Using the latest available doggie data from Animal Planet, we created an index of four criteria that make a dog breed friendly:
  • Affectionate or Very Affectionate
  • Friendly Temperament in General
  • Friendly or Very Friendly Toward Other Pets
  • Friendly or Very Friendly Toward Strangers
We found 23 dog breeds that meet the criteria, and then turned to the American Kennel Club’s 2014 popularity data to rank the breeds. It is important to remember that all dogs are a product of their environment, and personalities will vary from dog-to-dog. This list only aims to find dogs that are most often associated with the above traits.
Without further ado, we present the 23 friendliest dogs in America, who are sure to make a wonderful new addition to your life:

Will County gets new weapon to fight child pornography: a dog | Chicago Sun-Times

The circumstances of Lucky the dog have changed dramatically from a year ago, when the whimpering pup was rescued by a stranger from the doorstep of a Conway home, surrounded by the rising flood waters of the Waccamaw River.
The 7-month-old yellow Labrador mix was clearly malnourished, scared by pellet shots – one still embedded in his head – and terrified.
Alex Scroggins spotted the puppy while running his boat down the flood-swollen street to help evacuate family members during last October’s record rain storm, and it didn’t take him long to realize that the dog, named Lucky by his previous owner, had been abandoned.

“He started wailing and whining, and looked like he was going to swim off, get swept off by the current. I couldn’t leave him,” Scroggins said.

Neal Paskvan is a full time Realtor specializing in Downers grove, Darien,WThe Dog Bark Park Inn, located in the city of Cottonwood, is not your typical bed and breakfast. And that’s because it’s in the shape of a giant beagle, lovingly known as Sweet Willy. You can stay in this humongous dog for around $100 a night.

Oh, and in case this place wasn’t magical enough already: Sweet Willy has a puppy sidekick called Toby. You can’t sleep inside the smaller dog, though ― it’s just for show.
Owners Dennis J. Sullivan and Frances Conklin, a husband-and-wife artist duo, opened the inn back in 2003. Sullivan himself built Sweet Willy and Toby, Conklin told The Huffington Post. oodridge, Westmont and Du page county Real Estate

Waiting until after the Holidays Isn’t a Smart Decision | Simplifying the Market™

Every year at this time, many homeowners decide to wait until after the holidays to put their home on the market for the first time. Others who already have their home on the market decide to take it off the market until after the holidays. Here are six great reasons not to wait:

American Housing Survey Highlights Home Buyer Preferences | NAHB Now | The News Blog of the Nation

What Drives a Buyer to Select a Particular Home?

Filed in EconomicsSales & Marketing on August 10, 2015 • 0 Comments
If you have ever wondered what drives a home buyer to select a particular home look no further. The American Housing Survey provides insight into the home buying process, and NAHB economist Heather Taylor broke down the data in a recent Eye on Housing blog post.
The survey shows the top two reasons for choosing a home were its size (cited by 76% of buyers) and room layout/design (74%). The house’s price and the neighborhood were each cited by 72% of home buyers.
For buyers of new homes, room layout/design, neighborhood, exterior appearance and construction quality tended to be even more important than for other types of buyers. Among first-time buyers, on the other hand, price was more often a consideration  (see Graph 1 below).
